Place of Grace

In the Bickford neighborhood of North Memphis, new life and new housing are coming to a blighted section of the 7th Street corridor. In 2023, the CRA donated a vacant 10-unit, 2-story apartment building at 1051 7th Street and a vacant lot at 1073 7th Street to CAAP Inc. for a redevelopment project that will bring affordable housing units for seniors and families to the neighborhood. CAAP received funds from a variety of sources for the project, including: $315,000 in federal CHDO funds from the City of Memphis, $600,000 from the City’s Affordable Housing Trust Fund, and $50,000 from the CRA. The single–family home at 1073 7th Street is complete and occupied, and the apartment building at 1051 7th Street held a ribbon cutting celebration on December 18, 2025.
