Bearwater Greenline
The Bearwater Greenline is a former railroad right-of-way that was converted to a quarter-mile multi-modal trail and park space that connects to Washington Park and interlaces with other neighborhood amenities like Grind City Brewery and TechFit. The Uptown Community Plan identified development of this trail as key to implementing the vision for the Washington Park neighborhood anchor as a vibrant area with new housing options and quality greenspace amenities. From 2019 to the trail’s opening in 2023, the CRA managed the construction of the trail and partnered with the City of Memphis and area stakeholders on property easements, property acquisition, and design work. The trail ties into the Riverwalk Trail network and will eventually connect to the Wolf River Greenway network by way of the planned Chelsea Avenue Greenline, enabling neighborhood residents to go from Arkansas to Shelby Farms by foot or bicycle. Additionally, the CRA is working with community partners to install a visual/audio art exhibit that will showcase community history and resident stories along the greenline.
