Leon Park
In the summer of 2021, CRA partnered with neighbors along Leon Place to lead a whole block clean up event and beautification projects including installation of new sidewalks and flower beds. During this process, staff noticed that neighbors had set up a basketball goal in front of the vacant lot at 955 Leon Pl. With the support of the community, Leon Place Fitness Park was created to augment what the community was already doing, utilizing the lot as a safe, accessible space for all age groups. The park features designated areas for children, teens, and seniors. It aims to reduce local blight and crime, promote well-being, and provide a peaceful sanctuary within the neighborhood. Local organization, Bonds Kids, manages the park’s maintenance and hosts programs to inspire positive change in the community. This initiative is part of a broader effort to transform blighted areas into community assets.
